What is EPR registration?
EPR stands for Extended Producer Responsibility. Under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 and the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, the business that puts a product or its packaging into the market is responsible for making sure an equal share of that waste is collected and recycled.
Producers, importers and brand owners (PIBOs) must register on the Central Pollution Control Board's EPR portal, declare the quantity they place on the market each year, meet their collection and recycling targets through registered recyclers, and file annual returns.
Plastic waste processors and recyclers also need registration on the portal to generate EPR certificates for their customers.
